Virtual Revolution - freelance illustrations

A massive art dump: the fruits of my freelance involvement in the thrilling new cyberpunk feature film Virtual Revolution. Really, really fun to work on, and it's going to be a blast to see the end result when the movie comes out.

Forerunner armor again

A year ago I tried my hand and imagination at visualizing the exoskeletal armor suits of the Forerunners (Design no. 1 + Design no. 2). I gave it another go, aiming for a slightly less rigid feel.

For those versed in Halo lore, the hard light cloaks are of course far from canon (at least as far as I know), but I found the concept interesting enough to experiment. If anything the cloak concept reminds me of Destiny, and if any of the developers at Bungie should happen to sneak a peek: feel free to borrow it for any upcoming expansions. Wink, wink.

Colorful fishing boat

Found my fishing boat sketches from last year and felt like throwing some color on one of them.

Ashen - Tower

Here it is: the full Ashen suite. Set in near-future India, a cascade of meteorites and the volcanic chaos they caused have covered great swathes of the Earth in ash. What remains of the human race has taken shelter within the sealed tombs of civilization, nursing the faltering embers of culture and society.

Ashen - Main entrance

With most of the tower hermetically sealed, the few gateways are closely guarded and maintained. The building's air conditioning systems have been rigged to filter the outside air and supply its inhabitants with a breathable atmosphere.

Ashen - Homecoming

Perched on the doorstep, the scavenger pilot and his lumbering vehicle turn left to the forge, skirting the vibrancy of civilization.

Ashen - Forge

The scavenged materials are siphoned into silos for further sorting and processing at the lower levels. The pilot gets paid for his scavenge.

Ashen - Exophant

A closer look at the scavenger's elephantine vehicle. Twin vacuuming engines mounted at the rear suck up valuable metals and other trace elements interspersed with the ash. The findings are then carried back to civilization in two shoulder-mounted tanks. Controlling the entire thing is a lone pilot, sheltered from the harsh environment within an underslung cockpit container.

Present Day Assassin's Creed

Playing through the continuation of Ezio's storyline in old Italy, I was inspired to design a present day version of an Assassin.

Needless to say, Assassin's Creed is the property of Ubisoft, with whom I am in no way affiliated as of this time. This is purely the work of a fan. Should anyone take offence, I am prepared to remove it from my blog.

Exophant Variant Sketches

Here's some design variants on an elephantesque scavenger vehicle for the Ashen universe, ranging from the domestic to the straight-up military. Currently working on the final version which will fall somewhere in between the two. I'll put it up as soon as it's done.

Space Marine Reimagined

I suppose there were real restrictions to molding teeny-tiny little plastic-and-metal men in armor during the late 80's, and I do very much enjoy the universe of warhammer 40k, but nevertheless the resulting designs of the W40K Space Marines does sometimes bug me.

So I experimented a little with the majestic form of the Adeptus Astartes. Heresy! I know. But still, I like where I ended up.

Chasm City Vistas

A group of rough shots from and of Chasm City, as described by Alastair Reynolds.

The entire city is situated in a massive crater on a planet far from Earth. Its artificial atmosphere is contained within a series of interlocking domes dubbed "The Mosquito Net". Following the ravages of a terrible epidemic known as the Melding plague, which causes the very buildings to warp and disfigure, poisonous gases begin to seep into the city's center, forming a cauldron of lethal density and temperature. As the once so prosperous city falls, the rich flee into the soaring Canopy in their nimble cable cars, leaving the poor to fend for themselves down in the Mulch.

'Chasm City' Characters

Listened to the audio book of Chasm City, book two in Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space saga. Some good hard science fiction. Here's some of the characters, as I saw them.

Fishing Boats

Some caricatured fishing boats I did some while ago but never posted. Dug 'em up!

Cooking With Gas - Title Screen

Been thoroughly engrossed by the story editor for Shadowrun Returns these last weeks, and haven't painted as much as I might have wanted to do. But the idea of telling a real, playable story set in the Shadowrun universe really appeals to me, although the tools demand vast amounts of time for trials and testing. I'll step back from it for a while, let the art flow back into my fingertips, sounds like a good idea.

In the meantime, two birds one stone: Here's the title screen for the main area in the story "Cooking With Gas".

Forerunner Capital

Behold! The crazy huge (described as measuring 100 k kilometer in diameter at the widest point) center of the Forerunner Ecumene - the Capital. Most likely, this will be the last installment in my Forerunner series.

The Primordial

The looming menace featured in the Forerunner trilogy by Greg bear - the Primordial, a.k.a. The Timeless One, The Captive, The Prisoner of Charum Hakkor. Did my best to live up to the epicness inherent to its many names.
